Guide: How to Use a
PIN to Lock Your Netflix Profile
I share my Netflix account with my dad and brothers, and for the longest time I wanted to lock my Netflix profile. Sometimes I eat movies like The Kissing Booth (NSFW), and I don’t want them to judge me on my movie choices. Yes, it is, and judging people by their movie choices is real. So when the option to lock my Netflix profile with a PIN became available, I immediately jumped on the cart. Yes, Netflix made the option available to all Netflix account holders in early April, and now users can lock their profiles. This feature will also be helpful for some users who are paranoid about someone else’s use of their profile. In addition to locking the profile with a PIN, Netflix has also introduced a number of new ones featuresSo let’s go, shall we?
How to Using a PIN to Lock Your Netflix Profile?
Step 1: To lock your profile, go to your Netflix profile account settings. To do this, click on the little avatar in the top right corner and select Account.
Here you will see a new Profile and Parental Controls section. Click the arrow next to your profile name to expand the settings.
Step 2: Then click Change. As with passwords, you will also need to add the current account password here.
Step 3: Once done, you will see the option to add the new profile pin. Now add a four digit number and hit Save button
Everything you need to remember the number. From now on, your Netflix profile will be locked with a four-digit key.
After that, go to Netflix home page while logged in. Click the profile icon in the top right corner and select Exit Profile from the drop-down list. Then try to log in again. You should be greeted with profiles where your profile is displayed with a lock underneath. If for some reason you don’t see the lock icon on the profile landing page, a simple restart / refresh of the app should work. The Netflix account holders will also see an additional check box for a PIN code requirement for new profiles.
So if one of your friends with whom you share your Netflix account decides to add another friend, this feature will now nip the problem in the bud. Yes, you can thank me later. Did you know: You can check your account activities from the ‘Recent device streaming activity’ link (in Settings). It will show you all the device names along with the approximate location of the devices.
Restore a Netflix profile PIN
So you forgot your Netflix profile PIN? What now? Don’t worry, it’s a simple process to reset the password, provided you remember the master password. To do this, click on the Forgot your PIN code link at the bottom. If you use a browser such as Chrome and Firefox to watch Netflix, you will be redirected to the Accounts page.
If you watch Netflix on TV, you will need to log in to the Accounts page from your PC.
Bonus: Additional Netflix Settings
View restrictions
Apart from the above, you can also set a PIN for those profiles you want to restrict viewing for. So, for example, if you want to limit the term ratings for a profile to just 13+, you can do that now. To do this, go to the Display restriction tab and click Change. Again, you have to enter the password because you know why. Once inside, drag the slider to the left to the position of your choice and save the settings.
At the same time, you can also enter the names of any movies that you do not want to appear on your profile.
Just add the name under Title Restrictions and save the settings.
Autoplay settings
Netflix and Autoplay are synonymous with each other. Once you sign up, one of the titles on the banner will play. And well, there is no end to it. Even if you wait to read the summary of a new movie, the movie will continue to play. Annoying right? Well, there now seems to be a way out. You can put an end to Autoplay by using the display settings. The only problem is that if you turn it off, it will apply to all devices under that profile. To do this, go to the playback settings and uncheck the boxes for Autoplay controls.
At the same time, you can also turn off the Auto Play Next Episode option. But if you ask me, I find that quite useful.
Subtitles
Are you looking for larger subtitles on your screen? Apart from the size, you can also change the font and add a background to the subtitle text. To do this, navigate to the Subtitle Display tab and adjust it to your liking.
The good thing is, if you’re not happy with the changes, you just click Reset to Default button will restore them to their previous state.
Lock it
I shouldn’t be judged by my choice of movies and TV shows and neither should you. Use the above method and lock your profile. So how did it go? Let us know in the comments below.
