Guide: How to Use Paper.li to Read Your Twitter or Facebook Stream
If you get all your “news” from social networking sites such as Twitter or Facebook; even if it’s not really news (like #JustinBieber or something with those letters) why not get it all in one source and newspaper-like form? That would be cool, wouldn’t it? Paper.li is a new service that allows you to read your Twitter / Facebook stream in newspaper format. You’ll find information from tweets neatly arranged in different sections, complete with photos and videos, just like you read in a newspaper. The tool even gives you your own url extension which makes it feel more personal. So to show you the wonderful world of this easy-to-use tool, I decided to use my own Twitter account to see how well it understood me. To begin, we must first click on the yellow button at the top with the text ‘Make your own newspaper’. The next step is to use an account that you have been using for a while. As you can see, you can use Twitter or Facebook to collect your newspaper data.
In the next step, we need to get authentication through the Twitter authentication service.
Clicking Allow will give Paper.li your permission to collect data from your personal stream, your followers and everything.
There is my Twitter account. However, we don’t have the newspaper yet. So next to ‘registered as mike dopp’ we have to click on ‘create a newspaper’ button Of course we want to make a newspaper, but what data or information do we want to use in this newspaper?
You have a number of choices:
Twitter user + those who are being followed Twitter #tag Twitter @list
I have chosen to retrieve all Twitter user data and the data being tracked with my twitter username “mikedopp”. Once you have decided what data to retrieve, the data must be processed by the tool.
After a few minutes you will have your first “Daily Twitter / Facebook Newspaper”.
I really like how Paper.li puts this layout together. It makes it easy to read and even includes ads that create the real newspaper feel. Check out Paper.li to read your Twitter or Facebook stream in newspaper format.
