Guide: How to Use Spotify Premium on More than One Device

One of the oldest complaints about the Spotify service is that the client doesn’t allow you to share your premium account or play music on multiple devices. It’s time to change that. The following are a few workarounds that will finally let you play two songs at once!

Use SoundHound to play playlists

Ever since Spotify ended their lyric partnership with Musixmatch, they’ve been working to help third-party apps detect when it’s playing so they can display lyrics for users who still want it. One such direct collaboration is with SoundHound, a Shazam-esque music detector that also displays lyrics from Spotify. But there is an interesting edge case here. If you have Spotify premium, SoundHound can play your playlists without affecting the Spotify app, so you can have two devices playing at the same time. Here’s how. Step 1. Download SoundHound for free from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Step 2. From the app, press Play button bottom right. Step 3. Press Connect to Spotify button Step 4. Create a SoundHound account and give SoundHound access to your Spotify account. Step 5. When you’re done, you can choose a Spotify playlist you follow, click Spotify as your favorite streaming service and let go!

A playlist running on SoundHound won’t pause Spotify on other devices like normal, so you can have two speakers play two different songs, but both ad-free as they both use premium Spotify account. It’s worth noting that you can’t access the full Spotify experience on SoundHound because you can’t search for songs or turn on the high-quality audio. If you want to listen to an individual song on SoundHound, you have to go to the Spotify client and add the song to a new playlist before you can play it on SoundHound. The SoundHound app is also only available for iOS and Android at the moment, so this trick does not work between computer pairs or laptops

Go to offline mode

If you are already a premium user of Spotify, you should know that Spotify allows you to download songs so that you can play them offline. However, playing a song in Spotify’s offline mode will not prevent other devices from playing music from your account. As long as you’re willing to be online on just one of your devices, you can up to three others who play downloaded music at the same time. Step 1. Download the songs to your device. To do this, follow a playlist and click Download.

Step 2. Put your Spotify client in offline mode on all devices except one. There is a Spotify help page for that guide you through it on your device if you don’t know how. Step 3. Play your music! Keep in mind that you can download up to 3,333 songs on 3 devices, but you can always turn off the download button on a few playlists if you get closer to the limit. Multiple speakers

If you’re trying to play on multiple devices so you can have your songs in multiple rooms, you have the tricks above. Instead, you’ll want to check out Spotify Connect, which lets you play your speakers with you phone, as well as Spotify’s official speaker list. Via one of the Spotify speakers you connect them all to the same audio source to play them all at the same time. Multiple smart speakers, including Echo Dot and Google Home, can also be connected together. You don’t have to invest in a brand new account if you just want to distribute the sound throughout your home!

Grab a family plan

Even if you don’t have too many devices, you may still find a lot of value in a Spotify family plan.

To combat device sharing, Spotify’s family plans cost $ 18 per month instead of the regular $ 10 payment, but you can still get a up up to six individual premium accounts that can all be online and play different songs at the same time. Playlists are not shared, but you can easily have them all follow the main account’s playlists if you use the plan alone. If you don’t need six, you can share them with others. It’s expensive, but it’s much cheaper than buying a brand new account and you don’t have to worry about the solutions above. Related Google Play Music vs Spotify

Your thoughts

Unfortunately, there is no perfect solution. SoundHound only supports playlists and phonesPlaying offline can be annoying and no one wants to pay an extra $ 8 a month for a family plan. How do you prefer to get around it? Let us know below.
