How to use the camera to copy text from a photo – Guide
your iPhone camera app is no longer just for taking pictures. Enter text live feature. Ever wanted to easily copy and paste your handwritten work notes into a digital file? How about digitizing an old family recipe that has been passed down from generation to generation? And I’m not just talking about taking a snapshot of the note or recipe and emailing it. There’s an even better way to do this with the iPhone’s Live Text feature. It is a machine vision-based application that, among other things, allows you to copy and paste photographs of a text using the camera. Live Text was one of the new features included in Apple’s current mobile operating system, iOS 15, earlier this fall, as presented at Apple’s WWDC virtual developer conference. Using a smartphone to copy and paste text from an image isn’t exactly new. Android users may already be familiar with this feature due to Google Lens, but for the tens of millions of iPhone users, you’ll want to upgrade to iOS 15 right now to use it. Live Text differs from Google Lens in that you can choose, copy and paste text in real time with your camera, as the iPhone has been trained to recognize relevant information. It is a useful productivity tool to copy handwritten notes or text from photographs and then digitize them as I said earlier.
Here it is how to copy and paste text from a stored photo or image
Step 1: Make sure your iPhone has iOS 15 installed. Step 2: point the camera in a subject that has some text you want to copy. You’ll know Live Text kicked in as soon as you see a yellow outline around the text. Step 3: Tap the Live Text icon in the lower right corner to interact with any text on the board, select the text you want to copy by pressing down, just like you would in Notes or a text message. Then click Copy. Step 4: Now you can paste this text into another application such as Gmail or Notes. Much like Google Lens, Live Text can also search for text in images stored in the Photos app. For example, if there is a phone number on an image, you can tap it to dial the number, or if there is a French word, you can translate it into English.
